Andrew Harrison

The Grizzlies acquired second-round draft pick Andrew Harrison from the Phoenix Suns in a draft-day trade. That the 6’6″, 215-pound Kentucky product hasn’t signed with Memphis by now speaks volumes about his chances to make the roster.

Former New Jersey Nets assistant general manager Bobby Marks raised the question via Twitter after the Grizzlies signed Hollins on Wednesday.

The forecast was dim for Harrison after his poor NBA Summer League performance, in which he showed nice passing ability and defensive effort but couldn’t hit shots. Harrison averaged 5.4 points and three assists per game while shooting 36.4 percent from the field. He fared poorly when attempting inside shots in traffic.

The Grizzlies are deep at point guard with supreme slasher Beno Udrih behind Mike Conley and Joerger expressing his pleasure for third-stringer Russ Smith in an ESPN Radio Memphis interview with Geoff Calkins. Harrison would need a spectacular training camp and exhibition with much better shooting than he showed in Summer League in order to make the team.
