Memphis Grizzlies: Who Wins The Race For The Last Roster Spot?
By Tom Firme
Yakouba Diawara
Diawara played four NBA seasons in the late 2000s and is looking for a comeback. The 6’7″, 225-pound wing man played for the Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat from 2006-10, averaging 3.5 points in 14 minutes per game while shooting 35.7 percent from the field.
The 33-year-old Frenchman isn’t the type of perimeter player the Grizzlies need since he’s an inconsistent three-point shooter. During his NBA run, he made 30.1 percent from downtown while taking 62 percent of his shots from that range.
Since leaving the league, he played for four international teams. In 2014-15, he averaged 13.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting 35.9 percent from the field and 28.3 percent from long range for Varese in Italy.
Also, he had a small role on France’s 2012 Olympic team.
Considering the Grizzlies are one of the oldest teams in the league, they don’t need a backcourt player that advanced in his basketball age, especially one who can’t help their outside shooting woes.
