Quick Thoughts

As you can see, the Kings had quite a bit of roster turnover this summer. In the draft, Sacramento chose defense with the selection of Willie Cauley-Stein, a player who could very easily develop into a Defensive Player of the Year in the future for his ability to protect the rim and guard almost all five positions with quick feet and terrific instincts.

The only problem is how he fits alongside Cousins on the offensive end, since both players are at their most effective in the paint. The addition of Marco Belinelli and another year of development for Ben McLemore could help alleviate some of those spacing issues, but will they be enough?

Until Cauley-Stein is ready, head coach George Karl will most likely turn to the newly acquired Kosta Koufos, who played for Karl in Denver. The addition of Rajon Rondo represents a risky one-year gamble, and the possible spark that ignites an unstable Karl-Boogie chemical reaction. But we can’t mention the roster without calling to mind the horrifyingly epic salary dump the Kings executed this summer, banishing Nik Stauskas – a top 10 pick the summer before — to Philadelphia in the process.
