Predictions

The Dallas Mavericks have been a regular fixture in the playoffs for nearly two decades, but all good things must come to an end. Whether or not this is his final season, that statement holds true for the Mavs AND for the twilight years of Dirk Nowitzki’s Hall of Fame career. With such an underwhelming roster, Dirk and company seem destined for a year of unintentional tanking.

Wesley Matthews will come back at about 90 percent of what he was last year, stepping up as the Mavs’ best player. Parsons will improve marginally, Dirk will continue his statistical downward slide and Deron Williams will still be Deron Williams. The Mavs will struggle to guard anyone and should wind up as one of the five worst defenses in the NBA.

Carlisle will break Twitter at least twice for throwing JaVale McGee the dirtiest look he’s ever given an NBA player, Justin Anderson will enjoy plenty of playing time in his rookie season and the Mavs will win about 30 games — putting them right on the cusp of losing their top-7 protected pick.
