Quick Thoughts

With about 20 players on the roster and only three of them still being relevant in 2015, it’s pretty obvious Cuban had to take a quantity over quality approach once DeAndre Jordan backed out of his deal with Dallas. When your best player is either Chandler Parsons, an on-his-last-legs Dirk or an on-his-last-good-leg Wes Matthews, you’re probably not a playoff team.

Mavericks fans were happy to see Deron Williams join the team, especially since he was one of the best available free agent options at point guard by then. But D-Will joining the Mavs comes about three years too late, and as we’ve seen over the last few years in Brooklyn, he’s clearly not capable of being a leader.

Dallas may have about six centers on the roster, but Zaza Pachulia is the best one. The rest of the team is filled out with D-League call-ups (Famous, Ndour), fringe rotation players (Jenkins, Evans, Dalembert) and washed up players who are well past their primes (Felton, McGee, Villanueva, D-Will). Carlisle is a fantastic coach, but even he isn’t coaxing a postseason berth out of this crew.
