Jeremy Lin Unrecognized by Charlotte Hornets’ Security

Jeremy Lin is one of the most recognizable NBA players in the world. The now infamous period known as, “Linsanity,” saw him rise to fame in an almost overnight manner.

In the process, Lin developed a massive following. Being the star of the New York Knicks made him an international standout, earning the respect and admiration of people on every continent.

Now a member of the Charlotte Hornets, Lin discovered a very harsh reality: he’s not quite as easily recognized in Charlotte, North Carolina.

That’s awkward.

Lin is a polarizing figure with a legion of detractors who question his legitimacy on a daily basis. He’s also one of the most passionately supported players in the NBA, which makes that response so strange to see.

What’s even more difficult to comprehend is how this, “Literally,” happens, “Everywhere [Lin goes].”

Perhaps Lin’s global stardom has been overstated by the overzealous fans in his corner. Perhaps the coverage of his every move is unnecessary at this point in his career.

That’s all entirely possible, but this is too golden a story to ignore.

Lin is going to be the backup point guard for the Hornets in 2014-15, seeing somewhere in the ball park of 25 minutes per game. He’ll also spend periods of time alongside Kemba Walker in duel-facilitator sets.

Not only will Lin have a significant role on the court, but he’ll likely be a major piece in Charlotte’s marketing campaigns.

Yet, when Lin showed up to see the building that he’ll call home in 2015-16, he was treated as though he wasn’t an NBA player. The only true silver lining is that this will become a precautionary tale for when he enters the arena.

To all security members at The Time Warner Cable Arena: when Jeremy Lin walks up, you should know who he is.
