Predictions

The bloom is off the rose of being the plucky underdog and the Raptors are battling legitimate expectations from fans and outside observers to do more than just get to the playoffs.

Lowry, in the first year of his lucrative new contract last season, started to show signs of his nine years of pinballing down the lane, with various aches and pains that weight loss alone may not cure.

Terrence Ross, who has continually danced in and out of Dwane Casey’s doghouse in his three seasons in Toronto, is being asked to replace Lou Williams as the second-unit’s go-to offensive guy, but is coming off a season during which he scored in single-digits (42 games) more often than he reached double-figures (40 games).

DeMarre Carroll brings his junk-yard dog mentality to the Raptors, but the sting of being bullied by the Wizards in a first-round sweep may linger.

A division title and a fifth or sixth seed … and another first-round exit … may be the fate to which Toronto is doomed in 2015-16.
