Predictions

There are few things that can rip apart the small-group locker room of an NBA team more quickly than an unhappy player in a key role.

The Markieff Morris situation has two potential scenarios—neither of which end well for the Suns.

If Morris stays, he’s resentful, surly and not committed to the greater scheme of things in Phoenix and creates a schism in the dressing room.

If Morris goes, there is about one chance in 150 million—at best—that they get anything approaching replacement value in return, which creates a gaping hole at the power forward spot that no team that wants to contend in the West can afford.

In either event, a win total in the mid-30s appears to be just about the ceiling for this group, barring some sort of major surprise.

Of course, when Jeff Hornacek led the Suns to 48 wins in 2013-14, it came when preseason predictions has Phoenix somewhere in the low 20s.

So there’s that.
