Brooklyn Nets: Grading The Offseason
Signing Sloan
Shane Larkin might represent the sexier option at backup point guard due to his upside, but if the Nets want a steadier hand behind Jarrett Jack to start the season, they may go with Donald Sloan, who put up good numbers in an expanded role for the Indiana Pacers last season.
In 53 games and 21 starts, Sloan averaged 7.4 points and 3.6 assists in 20.9 minutes per game. However, he shot less than 41 percent from the field and just over 31 percent from three-point territory, which is why it wouldn’t be a surprise for Larkin to get his chance behind Jack.
This deal doesn’t hurt the Nets in any way, since it’s a partially guaranteed one worth the veteran’s minimum. Sloan will more than likely be competing with Ryan Boatright, an undrafted rookie on a partially guaranteed deal, for the third point guard spot.
