Utah Jazz: Grading The Offseason
Inking Ingles
Excluding the draft, signing Joe Ingles to a two-year, $4.5 million contract was the biggest move the Utah Jazz made this summer. As a 27-year-old rookie, the Australian native averaged 5.0 points per game on 41.5 percent shooting from the floor and 35.6 percent shooting from deep last year.
However, Ingles’ shot improved as the season progressed and he was a good locker room presence for such a young team, even if it was his first season in the NBA. The Jazz didn’t have to compete with anyone for Ingles’ services, but signing him to a respectable deal strengthened Utah’s bench and should help the team’s three-point shooting improve next season.
Ingles shouldn’t be a starter, but he found his touch and caught up with the speed of the game as the year progressed. At the very least, he’ll be a productive, smart bench player as the Jazz continue to move forward with the team’s younger core.
