Washington Wizards: Grading The Offseason
Adding Anderson
A one-for-one replacement for Pierce wasn’t possible, because by the time the Truth had made his decision, most of the talent on the wing had already dried up in free agency. But by adding Alan Anderson to the mix, the Wizards acquired another body on the wing to help make up for it.
Randy Wittman will always be remembered for his struggles with his clipboard, but he also did a great job in the playoffs by trotting out small-ball lineups who could spread the floor. Anderson represents yet another option Wittman will have that can play multiple positions as a 6’6″ shooting guard.
Last season, Anderson averaged 7.4 points in 23.6 minutes per game while shooting 44.3 percent from the floor and 34.8 percent from downtown. He’s not the most efficient player, but he gives the Wizards a scoring boost off the bench and for the price of a one-year, $4 million contract, that’s a pretty solid addition.
