 7. Austin Rivers — Duke

What if I told you that Anthony Davis wasn’t the top overall recruit in 2011 for Kentucky?

No, Davis was No. 2 on Rivals’ big board. The top spot belong to Duke commit Austin Rivers.

There was a lot of hype around the son of current NBA coach Glenn “Doc” Rivers heading into his freshman season with Duke, and at times, he lived up to it.

Rivers averaged 18.7 points per game in his 34 appearances in Durham and made the All-ACC First Team. But, he never really seemed like a typical Mike Krzyzewski-type player.

Regardless, the hype continued to grow for Rivers (partly due to his last name). He would leave Duke after one year and was drafted 10th overall in the 2012 NBA Draft by New Orleans; the same team that took Davis with the top overall pick in the same draft.
