Sacramento Kings: Grading The Offseason
Signing Anderson
The whole point of that foul-smelling salary dump was to free up cap space for the kind of free agent that would let DeMarcus Cousins know the organization still has his back.
But when the Kings missed out on Monta Ellis, who reportedly turned down Sacramento’s offer of four years and $48 million for a four-year, $44 million deal with the Indiana Pacers, their first move with all that newly created cap room was resorting to…(drum roll, please)…James Anderson!
Last seen playing for the 76ers in 2013-14, Anderson is a shooting guard who helped lead his Lithuanian team to the championship last year. He averaged 10.1 points and 3.8 assists per game during his most recent NBA season and will bolster the bench. I guess.
Suffice it to say that Sacramento’s first move — signing James Anderson to a multi-year deal — after clearing up that cap room with a horribly ill-advised trade was not exactly the kind of game-changing move the Kings needed to make.
