Trading Zaza Pachulia

If the goal of the offseason had been acquiring as many second round draft picks as possible, Milwaukee’s less flashy moves like this one would have earned them a top grade. But this was a personnel dump, pure and simple.

By shipping away Zaza Pachulia‘s $5.25 million expiring contract, the Bucks freed up more minutes for their two other centers on the roster (more on this in a minute). Pachulia was a nice veteran presence who averaged 8.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last season, but he certainly wasn’t a long-term fit at age 31.

Unfortunately, even if it clears some cap space and even if Pachulia was no longer needed to log minutes at the center spot on this team, it feels like a future second round pick is an underwhelming haul. Expecting a first-rounder for Pachulia would’ve been unrealistic, but considering how desperate the Dallas Mavericks were for a center after missing out on DeAndre Jodan, who can really say for certain?
