Trading Jared Dudley

Not long after Jared Dudley picked up his $4.25 million player option to stay in Milwaukee, the Bucks shipped him away to the Washington Wizards for a future second round draft pick. Dudley’s no superstar, but this was a curious move for a team that enjoyed his resurgent season off the bench after that disappointing stint with the Clippers.

Last season, Milwaukee was actually outscored when Dudley sat, and the veteran 3-and-D wing averaged 7.8 points per game on 46.8 percent shooting (38.5 percent from three-point range). Being that all the Bucks got back was a lousy second round pick while shedding a measly $4.3 million, this deal feels like a loss, even with Vasquez onboard.

Milwaukee will be just fine without Jared Dudley around and they’ve got a (hopefully) healthy Jabari Parker and Damien Inglis to look forward to. But Dudley’s veteran presence would’ve been a nice thing to have in a playoff series for such a young team.
