Top Performance By First-Round Pick: Stanley Johnson (Detroit Pistons)

It’s tough to pass up on Emmanuel Mudiay and Myles Turner for this spot, but Stanley Johnson’s production at the Orlando Summer League shouldn’t be ignored.

As the Detroit Pistons‘s No. 8 overall selection flat out dominated at times, but most importantly he contributed in all areas.

  • In five games in Orlando, Johnson averaged 16.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, two assists, 1.8 steals and a block while shooting 58 percent from the field. He electrified the Amway Center with tough drives to the rim and the defensive hustle that earned him a nod in the top 10.

More encouragingly for Pistons fans, Johnson showed an improved outside shot, which is something he needed to work on coming out of his freshman year at Arizona. He shot 42 percent on 3-point attempts and showed an ability to space the floor with a pretty mid range jumper.

Johnson was also the poster boy for efficiency in Orlando as he notched an astounding 31.89 PER with both fantastic offensive and defensive ratings at 120.7 and 93.9 respectively, according to RealGM.

If Johnson can further impress the Pistons in training camp and preseason, the rookie will be in the mix for a lot of immediate minutes in Detroit.
