Landing Pablo

Just a few hours after this article was published, the Los Angeles Clippers made their great offseason even better by signing the waived Pablo Prigioni. As part of the Ty Lawson trade, Prigs was quickly waived by the Denver Nuggets to avoid his guaranteed salary. Make that two former Rockets who will join the team Houston vanquished not long ago in the playoffs.

At age 38, Prigoni doesn’t have too many years of quality NBA basketball left in him. But that’s perfectly fine for a team in win-now mode, especially after the Clippers watching him sneakily pick their pockets on lazy inbounds passes in the playoffs.

An unwilling shooter at heart, Prigioni won’t blow anyone away with his marksmanship — or anything else for that matter. Adding Prigs does nothing to change the fact that Austin Rivers will remain the backup point guard in Lob City. But Prigioni is an intelligent and crafty player who provides even more depth for a potential playoff series. At the veteran’s minimum, this is yet another great, low-key pickup.
