Final Grade

The Hawks won some and lost some this offseason. They kept their star but lost an important player in order to do it. They made one great trade and one that will take time to decide whether it was good or bad.

The Hawks are unlikely to win 60 games again next year. They sort of took the league by surprise at the head of the East last year, and usually those surprise teams don’t match that same success next season without significant roster improvement.

The Hawks will be good next year though, make no mistake. Mike Budenholzer is a great coach, and he will find ways to compensate for his team’s losses while maximizing their gains. Ultimately, the Hawks’ offseason hinges on the notion that the people getting paid to make these decisions know more than the people critiquing them. That being the case, I remain optimistic.
