Other Minor Signings

The Hawks added swingman Justin Holiday on a two-year deal. Holiday played with the Golden State Warriors last season, and felt comfortable signing with a team that runs a similar style, relying heavily on the intelligence and unselfishness of its personnel.

Holiday has only played 68 NBA games, but is a reasonable shooter and defender, and he gives the Hawks some wing depth in case injuries strike again. Jaime Oppenheim of Bleacher report said that Holiday was a dark horse to start in place of Carroll.

Tavares, the Hawks 2014 second round pick, is a monstrous 7’3″ with a 7’9″ wingspan. He has great physical tools, but a raw skill set, and he will need time to adjust to differences between the NBA and European game. He’s the reserve big man for Atlanta, at least for the time being, but tall guys who learn the mental aspects of the game can be really valuable even in small roles.

Both of these signings allow the Hawks to round out their roster with competent NBA players. That is something not all teams in the league can say. It is not likely they make substantial contributions, but if the Hawks need guys who can play, they have a couple on the back-end.
