The journey hasn’t been easy for point guard Pierre Jackson, but the Baylor product finally will get a chance to play in the NBA. Per initial reports from Liberty Ballers’ Jake Fischer and follow up details from Northeast Ohio Media Groups’ Chris Haynes, the Philadelphia 76ers have signed Jackson to a four-year partially guaranteed deal.

Philadelphia initially selected Jackson in the second round of the 2013 NBA Draft and traded his rights to the New Orleans Pelicans. After breaking out in the D-League, his stock became appealing to the Sixers, who traded Russ Smith in order to get another look at Jackson following the 2014 NBA Draft.

Jackson displayed glimpses of NBA potential in the Orlando Summer League last season before rupturing his Achilles and subsequently getting waived by the organization. The diminutive point guard averaged 12 points, three rebounds and two assists per game during three Summer League games in Las Vegas in 2015.

When T.J. McConnell, who also is fighting for a roster spot in a now-loaded PG rotation on a partially guaranteed deal, faltered early Saturday against the Lakers, Jackson showed his microwave abilities heating up in the first half. At just 5’10”, Jackson doesn’t have the ideal size, strength or quickness that screams athletic freak. He’s just expected to do what’s natural.

The newest Sixer can shoot (45 percent in the 2013-14 season with the Rio Grande Vipers), excite an audience and quite possibly start. One Tony Wroten errant pass or Isaiah Canaan ill-advised three attempt and “Pappygawd” could be the next man off the bench.

The Sixers are sleeping no more. They woke up from a heavy slumber in free agency recently and add another young lead guard in a newly minted  triumvirate.
