When the Washington Wizards announced their Las Vegas Summer League roster, Jarrid Famous more than likely didn’t catch people’s eyes when scanning the list.

Guys like Kelly Oubre Jr., Aaron White, and Dez Wells ruled most of the headlines during mini-camp, mainly because Oubre Jr. and White were the Wizards’ draft selections and Wells played for Maryland, which is located very close to D.C. Not being popular with the media during mini-camp wasn’t on Famous’ priority list, winning over the coaches by playing exceedingly well was.

He’s done just that.

In regards to Famous’ career thus far, he has played in the D-League since 2011. Last season for the Texas Legends, he averaged a dominant 18 points and 14.3 rebounds per contest.

Famous’ first outing against the Phoenix Suns ended in a double-double effort with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The 6-foot-11 big man plays with immense energy at both ends of the floor. He also showed he has a dependable motor even as the game goes on.

With big men in the NBA becoming more agile off the dribble, Famous could struggle because he isn’t great laterally, but with his work ethic, it shouldn’t take long for him to be able to improve that part of his game after working with the Wizards’ coaching staff if he indeed does earn a training camp invite.

In the second game against the D-League Select, Famous had an impressive performance, posting another double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. The Wizards were down 20 for a long stretch of the game, but Famous and Oubre Jr. didn’t let the score effect their effort.

Again Famous ran the floor and crashed the board very well. He also shot 5-for-7 from the field and 11-for-12 from the free-throw line, another valuable asset that Famous brings (he has a 73.3 free-throw percentage for his career). Finishing around the rim comes easy for him considering his height and wingspan.

The thing about Famous’ game that continues to stick out is his hustle and effort on every possession. Those are things NBA teams love in a big man especially when he is doing so off the bench.

Famous battles for the offensive rebound, earns hoop and the harm:

Current backup center Kevin Seraphin should be involved in many sign-and-trade talks for the remainder of the summer. If the Wizards go through with a deal, Famous would be a perfect prospect to bring in and compete for the back-up center position.

It is expected for him to get an invite just off of his two performances thus far, if he can continue his production throughout the next couple games, it should raise his chances to not only get an invite, but a realistic shot at making the final roster.
