The Boston Celtics started off their Summer League schedule in Salt Lake City against the Utah Jazz on Monday, and the team’s second-round pick, Jordan Mickey, showed some great signs in his debut.

Although the Celtics lost their opening game to Utah, Mickey was able to show how he can finish in the paint and protect the rim on the defensive end. He ended up with 16 points, four rebounds, and three blocks. Mickey is a hard-working player that tries to do anything to affect the outcome of the game.

He showed that he can also score by shooting some mid-range jumpshots, which are crucial for power forwards to help space the floor. Mickey was the only Celtics’ rookie to have an impressive debut. R.J. Hunter and Marcus Thornton ended up with zero points, while Terry Rozier ended up with seven points.

Mickey understood his role on the floor during his debut. Since Colton Iverson decided that he no longer wants to be a part of the Boston Celtics, Mickey handled most of the center and power forward duties on the night. Mickey was one of the best shot-blockers in the country during his time at LSU, and his rim-protecting skills were on display during his debut against the Jazz.

The Celtics were outmatched down in the paint throughout the whole game. Although Mickey is a great rim-protector, he is very undersized to play the center position. Mickey also struggles boxing out at times, which was shown during his time on the floor against the Jazz.

He only ended up with four rebounds, which is a tad unacceptable seeing that he played about 27 minutes.

Mickey showed that he can be a big help during Summer League on both ends of the floor, and he even showed that he should be ready to help out the Celtics during the NBA regular season at times. Watch for Mickey as he should keep turning heads during his stint in Utah and even in Las Vegas.
