San Antonio keeps Danny Green, sends Tiago Splitter to Atlanta
The San Antonio Spurs kept sharpshooter Danny Green and have traded center Tiago Splitter to the Atlanta Hawks in a trade that keeps the five-time NBA champions in contention to sign premier free agent LaMarcus Aldridge.
From Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:
Green has spent the last five seasons with the Spurs, averaging a career-high 11.7 points per game to go with 4.2 rebounds, two assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks a night last season while shooting 41.8 percent from 3-point range.
He is a 42.3 percent shooter from deep since coming to San Antonio as a free agent in March 2011.
Green is reportedly agreeing to a four-year, $42.5 million deal with the Spurs—not a bad deal for a guy who was out of the NBA four years ago.
Splitter, meanwhile, has been limited to 111 games the last two seasons because of injuries. He averaged 8.2 points and 4.8 rebounds in 19.8 minutes per game last season while missing 30 games.
He has two years and $16.75 million remaining on the four-year deal he signed with the Spurs in July 2013.
Splitter was the 28th overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft by San Antonio and the Brazilian joined the Spurs in 2010.
There were no immediate reports of what San Antonio took back in the deal with Atlanta.
