Kawhi Leonard staying in San Antonio
According to a report, the San Antonio Spurs have agreed to the framework of a five-year deal to retain restricted free agent Kawhi Leonard, the 2014 NBA Finals MVP.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported the agreement, which could be worth more than $90 million.
“I have every intention of signing with the San Antonio Spurs,” Leonard said in a statement. “There are details in the contract which need to be worked out with the organization. I am confident that this will be accomplished.”
Leonard, the Defensive Player of the Year last season, averaged 16.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. The 15th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft was acquired in a trade from the Indiana Pacers for guard George Hill in July 2011.
