Tobias Harris Could Net A Max-Contract From Los Angeles Lakers, Fill Small Forward Void

If the Lakers strike out on their top big man targets, they could quickly turn around and offer Tobias Harris a max-contract to shore up their small forward slot.

Harris is a solid fit; he’s young, can score, and isn’t Wesley Johnson. That’s enough for most Laker fans.

Seriously, Harris fits in extraordinarily well with the Lakers young core. Small forward is an area that needs to be addressed this offseason, at least to some degree, and Harris can fill that role with confidence. Plus, Harris’ max-deal would leave the team with enough money (~$7 million) to fill some of the other holes on the roster.

The Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons could make Tobias Harris a priority, writes Shams Charania of RealGM:

"As Orlando restricted free agent Tobias Harris will pursue a maximum-level offer sheet on July 1 that the Magic possibly won’t match, the Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics have emerged as leading candidates for the talented forward, league sources told RealGM."

If other teams jump on him, the Lakers won’t even have a chance. Los Angeles is going to pursue the top names in free agency — they have meetings scheduled with LaMarcus Aldridge, Greg Monroe, and DeAndre Jordan — and by the time the dust settles there, Harris could be gone.

If Harris chooses to take his time evaluating offers and the Lakers miss out on their top targets, don’t be surprised to see them discuss a union.
