Lou Williams Expected To “Receive Strong Interest” From Los Angeles Lakers
According to RealGM’s Shams Charania, the Lakers are one of several teams expected to show interest in reigning Sixth Man of the Year, Lou Williams:
"Lou Williams is expected to receive strong interest from teams that include the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets, providing a clear competition for the Toronto Raptors to retain the NBA’s reigning Sixth Man of the Year, league sources told RealGM."
How many shot-chuckers can you legally roster in the NBA?
This seems like another case of an agent trying to drum up a bidding war, linking the Lakers to their client in the process. And it makes sense for the Williams camp to try to ride the “Hey, I Just Won Sixth Man of the Year” hype train for as many dollars as they can.
A match is hard to picture with the Lakers, though. With the way the roster is constructed, at least right now, it seems like an awkward fit at best.
Can you imagine a team featuring Kobe Bryant, Nick Young, and Lou Williams? Would D’Angelo Russell register more than 10 shot attempts in his rookie season?
Even if the Lakers were able to deal Nick Young, signing Williams to come and do the same things for more money doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. Expect the team to pass on yet another gunner without a conscience, and focus their efforts on a big that can play a more important role in 2015-16.
