So that happened.

The Los Angeles Lakers made all three of their selections in the 2015 NBA Draft, piling up a trio of talented prospects to add to a core that grows more enticing by the month. And to say that any of it was totally expected would be a bold-faced lie.

D’Angelo Russell emerged as the Lakers’ choice with the second overall pick, a rather surprising decision considering the team’s infatuation with dominant post players.

Reports surfaced Thursday morning that suggested the team would take Russell — including a fantastic article by Bleacher Report’s Kevin Ding — but the consensus still seemed to be that the Lakers would grab Jahlil Okafor, as they had been projected to do since solidifying their place in the lottery.

As it turns out, the selection of Russell would be the least surprising move of the night.

Larry Nance Jr. was the Lakers’ pick at 27 overall, a move that nobody saw coming. DraftExpress has Nance ranked as the 64th overall prospect, which suggested that he may have not been drafted at all. Instead, the Lakers scooped him up in the first round, bypassing many higher-ranked players in the process.

Anthony Brown, the 34th overall selection, was the least surprising of any of the Lakers’ draft picks. He was ranked as the 27th best prospect in the draft by DraftExpress, and should provide solid value at the point of the draft in which he was taken.

But, how do these young players help the Lakers next season (and going forward)? Let’s take a quick look at what they bring.
