Los Angeles Clippers’ Free Agents: Who Should Stay And Who Should Go
Ekpe Udoh
At age 28 and on his third team in the NBA, it’s officially time to give up on Ekpe Udoh ever being worthy of the sixth overall pick he was chosen with back in 2010.
With that in mind, it’s not time to give up on him as a potential NBA bench player.
When Udoh entered the draft back in 2010, his stock was high because everyone knew of his height, length, and athleticism. He was a shot blocking terror at Baylor whose skills were raw. Those skills haven’t shown much improvement, but he’s still tall, long, and athletic. In a league that values rim protection and shot blockers heavily, Udoh will have a spot in this league.
Since Udoh’s stock was falling rapidly around the league before signing with the Clippers, it’s hard to imagine any team offering him more than the league minimum after appearing in limited minutes in only 33 games on a team that lacked depth.
For end-of-the-bench roster spots, teams should look to signing players who have at least one noticeable skill. Udoh’s shot blocking presence should secure him a roster spot somewhere next season. The Clippers should look into bringing back Udoh for next season.
