Golden State Warriors: 5 Preparations For NBA Finals Game 5
1. Get The Splash Brothers Going
When you think about it, getting the ball out of LeBron’s hands really should be priority No. 1. But is it wrong to think that the Splash Brothers are due for a great night at home now that the team has its swagger back and a chance at a 3-2 series lead?
Curry has been brilliant in flashes, like the second quarter of Game 1, the fourth quarter of Game 3 and the fourth quarter of Game 4. Last night he and Iggy were the catalysts behind the Warriors sustaining and building their fourth quarter lead. When he froze the entire Cleveland defense with a smooth finger roll, he supplied the dagger.
But he has yet to play a complete game, and other than a 34-point performance in Game 3, Klay Thompson has been virtually nonexistent on the offensive end.
Both Splash Brothers were efficient last night and they played excellent defense. But now would be the perfect time for a vintage rainmaker kind of night at Oracle Arena. There’s blood in the water, and until the fourth quarter, it didn’t feel like Curry was going to be able to smell it.
That needs to change in Game 5. LeBron and the Cavs have an extra day to recharge before Sunday’s game and with their backs against the wall, they’re going to play with the same kind of desperation that the Warriors harnessed in Game 4.
The best way to counter that desperation is to knock the Cavs on their butts with a shower of backbreaking three-pointers. The Dubs’ depth has carried them thus far, but now it’s time for this team’s stars to step up and lead.
The fact that only Klay Thompson has had that kind of standout game (and that it was only in one of four games) has to be encouraging that a big night might be on its way for at least one of the Splash Brothers.
