David Laury, Iona

Laury is a 6’9 245 lb big man who won MAAC Player of the Year this past season. He was also named a finalist for the Karl Malone Award, which is given to the top power forward in the country. During his last season, Laury showed the ability to hit outside shots as he did so by shooting 38 percent from three. In his previous two seasons at Iona, he didn’t make a three all year.

Averaging 9.7 rebounds a game shows he can pound the glass, but there are some questions. The first thing is he is 25 years old, which in today’s NBA, teams don’t like investing in a player who already missed their prime years to develop in the league. Playing in the MAAC Conference doesn’t offer other NBA prospects to compete with, especially at the power forward position.
