Verdict

As you can probably guess, I wouldn’t be in favor of letting this guy go. Not because I think he’s the single player who can push this team onto greater things. But because in some ways he’s more important than that. He can be that second star, and be comfortable in that role. So many guys want to be the big man and take those big shots and be known as the star attraction in town.

Oladipo can do those things, I just think he’d be more comfortable and better suited to playing the Scottie Pippen to somebody else’s Michael Jordan. Either way, he’s the kind of guy you want on a rebuilding team. He’s getting better as the team slowly does so as well, and that growth together is also important.

He only recently turned 23, and this coming season is a big year for him. Star players like Paul George and Derrick Rose before him really came into their own during this period of their careers, and Oladipo has the tools to make that leap as well. I’m just delighted he has the potential to do that in a Magic uniform. He’s not unmovable, very few guys in this league truly are.

But it would take a lot, and I mean a lot, to pass him on.
