Top 5 No. 19 Picks in NBA Draft History
1. Rod Strickland, 1988 NBA Draft, New York Knicks
Rod Strickland was a 17-year veteran in the NBA. During his prime, he was one of the most feared point guards to play against simply because of his toughness and intensity he played with every game. He wasn’t afraid to go down low and bang with the big guys for a tough basket or rebound.
Throughout his career, he played for 10 different teams, but his best season was with the Portland Trail Blazers when he averaged 18.9 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game. In 1998, he was the NBA assist leader as he averaged 10.5 per game. He was not a good shooter from outside, but he would kill opponents by penetration for scores and kick-outs to his open shooters.
For his career, Strickland averaged 13.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 3.7 rebounds.
