NBA Draft History: Top 30 Steals of the Lottery Era
7. Rajon Rondo, 2006 NBA Draft, No. 21 overall, Phoenix Suns
Although Rondo was drafted by the Suns, he was immediately traded to the Boston Celtics. On draft night, if GMs knew what Rondo would become, he could have been the first overall pick, but that is what makes him a steal.
Rondo has had four seasons where he has averaged 10+ assists, three of which he also scored in double figures. The most impressive thing that Rondo did was fit in with the “Big 3” made up of Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce. Even though he was young, Rondo was counted on by head coach Doc Rivers to lead and distribute.
His leadership helped lift them to NBA Champions in 2008. The four-time NBA All-Star is one of the best distributors and defenders that the point guard position has to offer.
Rondo’s career averages are 10.8 points, 8.3 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game.
