John Wall sat down with CSNWashington.com’s Chris Miller recently to talk about the best guards in Washington Wizards franchise history. While he stopped short of calling himself the best, he did acknowledge the fact that someday he could be listed up there with the all-time greats.
Watch the video below:
Wall has certainly done his part to prove that he belongs among the elite point guards in Wizards/Bullets history, as he now owns the No. 2 (792, 2014-15) and No. 5 (721, 2013-14) assist seasons in franchise history. Only Rod Strickland (801, 1997-98) put up a better season.
The 6-foot-4 guard out of Raleigh, North Carolina is just 833 assists shy of taking over Wes Unseld as the franchise’s all-time assist leader. He’s only 197 steals away from catching Greg Ballard for the all-time steals crown.
Though he’s a fairly humble (he did show us how to Dougie in his first game, remember), he did give himself some credit when he quipped, “if I didn’t get injured my first year, and if I didn’t sit out those games my third year from injury, I might have already broken the record.”
It wasn’t just assists for Wall in 2014-15, as he made his second straight All-Star appearance and averaged 17.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 10.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He posted a career high field goal percentage of 44.5 and brought the Wizards to their second consecutive Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Wall mentioned previous guards Earl Monroe, Rod Strickland and Gilbert Arenas among the all-time franchise greats. Who do you think is the best point guard in franchise history as of right now?
