5 Reasons The Los Angeles Clippers Can Win It All
3. Blake Griffin, Point Forward
I’ve already covered his absurd playoff leap this season, but it bears repeating: If you also believe that Anthony Davis will develop into a center (as I do), Blake Griffin is the best power forward in the NBA. And to be honest, we may not even need that Brow-related distinction for the time being.
Through the first 11 games of the playoffs, the Flyin’ Lion has proven just how silly people were for thinking that all he could do was dunk. He’s averaging 24.7 points, 13.0 rebounds, 6.9 assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 49 percent from the field. If we could sum up his postseason in one play, this would probably do it justice:
He’s turned every criticism against him into strength. Remember how he didn’t rebound well during the regular season? Now he’s second in the NBA in rebounds per game this postseason, trailing only his teammate DeAndre Jordan (13.6). Not that long ago, he was leading the Clippers in assists per game in the playoffs as well.
Griffin has three triple-doubles in his 11 playoff games, including a 24-13-10 outing in the decisive Game 7 and a 26-14-13 performance in Game 1 of this series to give the Clips a surprising 1-0 lead. He’s been the best player of the 2015 NBA Playoffs, bar none. If he can continue like this, well, you know what they say about the league’s best players deciding playoff games.
