Golden State Warriors: 5 Adjustments For Game 3
4. Taking Care Of The Ball
During the regular season, turnovers were probably this team’s biggest weakness. The Dubs averaged 14.5 turnovers per game during the regular season (13th most in the NBA) and in the postseason, though they’ve actually cut them down to 14.2 per game, they’re still committing the fifth most turnovers among playoff teams.
In that Game 2 loss, the Warriors committed a game-changing 20 turnovers that led to 22 points for the Grizzlies. That means that roughly 22.7 percent of Memphis’ points in that game came off of turnovers. The Grizzlies’ offense is not good enough to beat the Warriors’ top ranked defense. However, giving them easy chances (in transition, for example) leaves the door wide open.
Until Game 2, the Dubs had done a good job taking care of the ball and maximizing their number of possessions. But against this gritty defense, they need to keep their poise, move the ball and avoid giving the Grizzlies transition opportunities.
