Stephen Curry: Top 10 Moments From His MVP Season
4. The Night That Sealed The Deal
Stephen Curry was the MVP frontrunner for the vast majority of the season, but plenty of differing opinions could be found. That is, until Apr. 9, the night that Curry put the conversation to bed. James Harden was a deserving candidate too, but Curry’s 45 points against the Portland Trail Blazers convinced pretty much everyone that the race was over.
Curry was at the height of his efficiency in that game, knocking down an outrageous 17 of his 23 shots, including eight of his 13 threes. He also added in 10 assists and single-handedly carried the Dubs down the stretch to put the game away.
But on Curry’s fifth three-pointer, he also set a new landmark for himself and for the NBA. Entering the game, Curry needed four three-pointers to tie his own single season record for made three-pointers (272). He had made six before halftime and finished with eight in the game.
By season’s end, Curry had demolished his old record with a final tally of 286. Not only was it a shining example of what happens when Curry turns into the Human Torch, but it was also the crown jewel of another record-breaking season.
