Don’t get overwhelmed.

It’s inevitable. This Hawks will have spurts of scoring that seem like they can’t be overcome at some point during this series. Staying focused, and not getting overwhelmed when this happens is important. Getting overwhelmed causes a type of play that will not defeat the deficit.

If the Wizards play like they are overwhelmed, I can almost guarantee that they will have a bump up in turnovers. Decision making will be poor, and passes will be easily intercepted if they play like they are overwhelmed.

So, how do they not get overwhelmed? They can’t be afraid to take a timeout to collect themselves. Don’t go into a transition and get going with fast breaks if the past few possessions haven’t been quality. Slow down, call a play, and see what you can do from a fresh start.

We’ve seen Walker have some great transition plays, but he also needs to slow down at points to let the rest of the team catch up with him, and get on his page. He can sometimes get a few steps ahead of himself.

Too often, teams that are already overwhelmed try to get a run going with fast breaks and just end up turning the ball over again because of a bad pass. This is no different for the Wizards, and they need to make sure it doesn’t happen if they want to give the Hawks some competition.
