SEC: 5 Reasons Why Billy Donovan Will Succeed Coaching The Oklahoma City Thunder
Donovan’s Coached Stars
One of the biggest reasons why Donovan is so revered as a coach is because he’s coached talent. There’s a reason why stars and talented players keep flocking to play for him.
Donovan won two straight national championship titles with the Florida Gators and he made the program into one of only a few schools in the NCAA that are awesome in football and basketball.
On the 2007 championship roster that he assembled and developed included two All-Stars in Al Horford and Joakim Noah, two quality starters in Corey Brewer and Marreese Speights, as well as two other NBA players in Chris Richard and Taurean Green.
That’s why it’s not a surprise that he also coached Mike Miller, Chandler Parsons and David Lee during his career, helping all of them reach the pinnacle of their careers.
It’s ironic now the tables have turned. In a complete role reversal, his former players are now the people who are declaring that he’s ready to go to the league.
That’s praise enough.
