Golden State Warriors: 5 Takeaways From Crazy Game 3
1. This Series Is Over
Good job, good effort, Pelicans. This series has been reminiscent of when the No. 1 Chicago Bulls faced the No. 8 Indiana Pacers in the first round of the 2011 NBA Playoffs. The Pacers were still a team on the rise, and though they fought hard in each and every single game, they just fell victim to a team of destiny and its MVP.
That Bulls team went straight to the Eastern Conference Finals and the Pacers, bright as their future was, just couldn’t keep up.
That’s what this series has felt like, only if the Bulls were world-beating juggernauts and the Pelicans had an even brighter future with their monster-in-the-making, Anthony Davis.
All that being said, this series is over. And by over, I mean we could be looking at a sweep now.
A loss like that is utterly demoralizing, especially for a team whose best player is only 22 years old and is playing in his first playoff series. To regroup from a bitter defeat where you squandered a 20-point lead? That’s tough to come back from. It’s even tougher when your opponent is the best team in the NBA.
Curry completely deflated Smoothie King Center, and though the fans will show up loud to root their team on to at least one victory, there’s no way this series extends past Game 5 now. The Warriors smell the blood in the water and since no NBA team has ever come back from a 3-0 playoff deficit (in 110 tries), it’s safe to say the Dubs will be moving on soon enough.
We’ll always have Game 3, and the Pelicans have a bright future, but this series is over.
