4. Mark Jackson

Probably not an ideal hire, but a player’s coach like Mark Jackson would probably be able to win over that locker room. We’ve seen the difference between elite coaches and Mark Jackson with what the Golden State Warriors were able to accomplish this season behind Steve Kerr, but Jackson did bring that franchise back from the franchise and in his last season, led the Dubs to 51 wins.

Golden State has a lot of great talent, but they don’t have a Kevin Durant AND a Russell Westbrook. Jackson is a very good defensive coach, which would bode well for a D that was bleeding points after the Kanter acquisition. M-Jax also did a great job cultivating his young talent, which is a must on a team with such a young core.

The question is whether the Thunder would risk engaging with a coach who likes to do things his own way. As we saw with the Warriors’ front office, Jackson became embattled and the two sides clashed on a number of personnel issues.

There’s also that undeniable feeling that the Thunder could do better. Jackson would be a splashy name to hire, but he might not be a championship-caliber coach.
