Verdict

Quite unsurprisingly, it’ll be a first round exit for these guys. Nothing strange about that, although getting this far in the first place is probably the most surprising aspect of it all. Teams like the Orlando Magic, rebuilding longer than Boston has and still yet to taste playoff basketball in their current incarnation, have to feel a little jealous.

It’s hard to know what this postseason appearance will do for the organization long term though. Yes the Celtics are the most successful team in league history and it’s important they get that winning feeling back once again. But beyond Bradley, Sullinger and Smart, I could see this roster getting a major overhaul and even taking a step back in order to be a much better team in the not too distant future.

I don’t even think Thomas is safe from a potential trade down the line. So this team and their players should enjoy this brief foray into playing basketball in April, it might be a little while before they’re back there again. A nice story out of the East though.
