Potential X-Factor

Jason Kidd

Kidd goes in as the first potential X-factor who is not a player. What he has done for this franchise cannot be underestimated, however. As mentioned before, he’s got this team playing some great defensive stuff, despite the fact he doesn’t possess a ton of elite defensive players like the Golden State Warriors.

His move from the Brooklyn Nets last year was a messy one, with some feeling it was all more hassle than he was actually worth. Now though, Kidd becomes the first person in league history to lead two different teams to the NBA playoffs in his first two years as a head coach. Impressive stuff.

The competitor in him will have him believing this team can compete with any in the East, there’ll be no excuses. He’s not afraid to ring the changes if necessary, and will make changes on the fly such as running plays for Bayless and even Middleton from time to time.

It may not be enough to see his team get out of the first round, but just being there has done wonders for his own personal image. Like Giannis, look for Kidd to have one game where he clearly gets the better of his opposite number with some astute tactical decisions.
