Playoff Picture: Memphis Grizzlies

Why They’ll Fall Short
There’s an argument to be made that this team has a formula for winning games and series that works pretty well, but that hasn’t landed them a title. You can argue for and against that, but the one thing we can be certain of is this. We know how the Grizzlies will set up and play, they’re unlikely to surprise anybody with how they play.
That’s fine, they’ve had great success playing this way after all. But having an ace up their sleeve, that move to throw people, would add another layer to what is a fundamentally sound outfit and possibly push them over the top.
The Jeff Green experiment hasn’t quite worked out either. Brought on board for some extra offensive juice, he’s floundered and just doesn’t seem to fit in here. Whether that will change remains to be seen, ironically enough he could be that wild card that explodes for them in the playoffs. But right now he’s not doing much else for Memphis.
There hasn’t been much of this since his move out West.
For a team that is built on solid foundations, ranking 14th in the league in rebounding per game isn’t good enough either. They fall behind the Golden State Warriors in this category, for example. All in all, there’s much to like here, but they’re the same things we’ve liked about this organization for years now. Nothing has really changed.
