2015 NBA Draft: Top Underclassmen Prospects
6. Kelly Oubre, SF, 6-7, 200 pounds, Kansas FR
Oubre is a player whose performance in workouts could drastically help or hurt his stock. The Jayhawk small forward has good size and athleticism for his position, but is far from a finished prospect. He had tons of fans before the season began, but after a rough start scouts started hopping off the bandwagon. A strong finish to the season brought some back, but the jury is still out on Oubre.
He’s a great athlete, has a good jump shot, and can finish going left (and only left). Have you ever seen a basketball player who just looks like he’s gliding out there on the court? That’s Oubre: his motion is so fluid. With his length (7-2 wingspan… or as Jay Bilas would say, WINGSPAN) means he could be a great defender, but he hasn’t committed to it consistently yet, although Bill Self brought the best out of him this year.
He averaged 9.3 pointd and 5.0 rebounds per game on 44.4 percent shooting this season (35.8 percent from deep), and has major upside potential, but teams are going to want to see how he matches up against Stanley Johnson and Justice Winslow for him to rise any higher in the draft. No word on whether the Nick Young haircut will scare teams away.
