4 Reasons Why Marc Gasol Should Leave the Memphis Grizzlies
By jasaad
Gasol Needs a Kobe Bryant
If Marc Gasol played with a player like Kobe Bryant, who’s a driven scorer, playmaker, and leader, then he would surely thrive. Though Gasol had emerged as an aggressive go-to scorer throughout the outset of the first three months of the season, he quickly reverted back to his customary passive ways.
Due to their lack of offensive firepower, the Grizzlies’ slump on offense has coincided with Gasol’s self-restraint play. Gasol has shown that he isn’t incapable of taking on a role of headship offensively, and Memphis blossomed when he played aggressively; however, Gasol is clearly more comfortable playing the background and accommodating his teammates.
It comes more naturally to him.

It’€™s no secret that Gasol possesses empathetic intuition for his teammates; he’€™s very conscientious about making the right basketball play to a fault at times. The Spaniard doesn’€™t arrogantly assert himself as the Alpha male like the typical egotistical American.
In fact, he complies with being subtly great while his team flourishes — much like his undervalued brother Pau Gasol was when he played during Los Angeles’ back-to-back championship runs. That is precisely why playing alongside a dominant superstar–a la Kobe Bryant–would behoove Gasol and allow him to play at his full capacity.
A player of Bryant’s all-star caliber power is lacking in Memphis. The Grizzlies desperately need Gasol’s unremitting assertion in order for them to have a chance at winning a title, and that simply isn’t the player who Gasol is.
