Upset of the Day Part 2 (because two is better than one)
#14 Georgia State Panthers finish comeback against #3 Baylor Bears
Down 12 with under three minutes to play, Georgia State junior R.J. Hunter took over for his team, scoring 12 of the Panthers’ last 13 points, including a daring three-pointer with under three seconds left in the game to finish off the comeback against Baylor 57-56.
Playing without its second-leading scorer in Ryan Harrow (hamstring) and having Ron Hunter coach from a rolling stool on the sidelines (torn Achilles), Georgia State forced Baylor to commit 21 turnovers in the game. Baylor’s lack of offense down the stretch proved to be their downfall.
Why it’s an upset:
Another 14-seed comes away with the win while being without on of its best players and best offensive weapons in Harrow. Baylor’s defense played its game but the offense couldn’t keep up and the Big-12 continues to look a bit weaker as the tournament goes on. R.J. Hunter would not let his team and die advance because of it.
Coach Hunter was so happy for his son, and his team, he fell out of his chair:
Georgia State advances to play Xavier on Saturday.
Baylor ends the year with a 24-10 record.
