March Madness 2015: Top Plays From Day 1 Of NCAA Tournament
No. 3 Baylor vs. No. 14 Georgia State:
The Hunter family won Day 1 of the 2015 NCAA Tournament and it wasn’t even close.
Trailing by 12 points with 2:43 left in the game, it felt like the Georgia State Panthers were all but done for. Then R.J. Hunter, son of head coach Ron Hunter, scored 12 of his team’s last 13 points to stun the Bears.
Hunter drilled three three-pointers in a row at one point, but the moment that made this game one of the all-time March Madness classics was the final long range bomb that sent Baylor packing.
With 15 seconds remaining, the Panthers grabbed the rebound off a William Chery missed free throw (on the front-end of a one-and-one). Hunter passed the ball to his big man T.J. Shipes, got the ball back and…well, the ballsy shot he nailed speaks for itself:
In case you missed it, that’s coach/proud father Ron Hunter falling straight out of his chair and belly-flopping on the ground. Hunter already tore his Achilles celebrating Georgia State’s tournament berth, making this moment of pure joy even more priceless:
This shot, and the reaction that came from it, will be on One Shining Moment this year no matter how far the Panthers go. Less than 24 hours after it happened, it’s already an all-time iconic March Madness moment. Simply put, the Hunters had a better day than you. They just did.
