March Madness 2015: Top Plays From Day 1 Of NCAA Tournament
No. 3 Iowa State vs. No. 14 UAB:
The UAB Blazers simply would not be deterred, providing our first upset of the day in Game 2. A Chris Cokley put-back jam halfway through the second half let the Cyclones know that they meant business:
Iowa State, a popular pick to make the Elite Eight and possibly even the Final Four, responded by taking a four-point lead with 3:13 to play. But William Lee and Robert Brown wouldn’t back down, combining for the Blazers’ final nine points, outscoring the Cyclones 9-4 the rest of the way.
Lee’s three-point play (he missed the free throw) cut the lead to two before Brown calmly drained a monumental three-pointer to reclaim a one-point lead with 52 seconds remaining:
A Monte Morris jumper quickly gave Iowa State a one point lead, but then Lee came back down and drilled the jumper that would ultimately spell doom for millions of brackets across the country. Brown led the way with 21 points, while Lee finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the 60-59 upset.
Not bad for a freshman:
