Brooklyn Nets fans are calling for the firing of GM Billy King and frankly it is about time. Something needs to be done to eliminate from the organization, the kind of decision making that has led up to this current state of flux, for lack of about 100 terms.

When the 2013-14 season started, I was absolutely shocked that our GM would gamble so profoundly on one year that his actions would ultimately sever hope of success in the future for several campaigns to come.

Presently the situation is horrendous, if allowed to continue for even the shortest amount of time, the additional mismanaging could result in outright disaster.

Here Are Five Reasons Why GM Billy King Needs To Be Fired Immediately:

  • The Brooklyn Nets’ next first-round draft selection will be in 2019, not only does that leave fans with nothing to look forward to for the next four years, there are barely any players still on the roster who were acquired in those deals.
  • Instead of taking advantage of an opportunity to get ahead of the rebuilding process, King was unable to move even one of the three massive contracts that are swallowing cap space up, before the trade deadline — a point in time where the team actually had a smidgen of leverage in forcing the hand of another organization out of necessity.
  • Mr. King was on board with acquiring Lance Stephenson from the Charlotte Hornets for Brook Lopez — not only would this deal have crippled the Nets in terms of losing a true center ( even if oft-injured) , but they would also be taking a loss in the talent department.
  • Since taking over the job in 2010, Brooklyn/New Jersey has had four different coaches — how could the team ever create an identity, or execute a system, when next season there is a good chance someone new will come in with a completely different coaching style.
  • By far the biggest blunder has to be trading away what could have been the chance to select Damian Lillard in the 2012 draft, along with Mehmet Okur, and Shawne Williams, for one Gerald Wallace — yep, that Gerald Wallace.

This will never get easier to watch:

Every GM is going to make decisions that we all do not agree with, all we can do as fans is hope they are at the very least in the interest of making the team better. Clearly Billy King has done nothing but put the team on the path to win no more than 25-30 games each season for the foreseeable future.

There is a website in place for those who have had enough of the mind-boggling choices, and complete incompetence, that has brought the team to this periled state. True fans should not idly sit by while the situation grows graver — show your support, and let your voice be heard that the time has come for immediate change.

These are just some of my reasons, if you have your own reasons, feel free to sound off in the comments.
